   The main reason for the expansion of the Russian Empire was an urgent need to obtain markets for emerging industries. In addition, favorable Turkestan region could become a valuable raw material supplier.
      In addition there were economic and political reasons. Russia's imperial ambitions, "grows boundaries" demanded the conquest of more and more territories. Slipped statements that Russia must expand to natural boundaries, in this case to the ocean. Interest in English to Central Asian territories only fueled this trend.
      After the defeat in the Crimean War, Russia's prestige in the international arena staggered and victorious conquest of Turkestan had become one of the ways to strengthen it.
      In the 60's. there is another serious reason. In connection with the civil war in the United States broke off supplies of cotton required for the textile industry in Russia. Turkestan cotton was sorely needed.
