Kyrgyzstan trekking: Tour 2

Our company will try its best to help you to discover Kyrgyzstan, a unique country lying in the heart of the Tien-Shan Mountains. It is a land of striking contrasts offering multitude of spectacular landscapes: wide steppes, green fields, sandy deserts, turquoise lakes, snowy mountains, fast rivers, an abundance of wild life with many rare and dying out species, historical and archeological places related to the history of the Great Silk Road and people keeping the traditions of their nomadic ancestors. All this makes Kyrgyzstan nothing but a pearl of Central Asia.


Day 1: Bishkek - Karakol (450 km - 8 h) (1 650 m. a. s. l.)

In the morning we will start our way to Karakol town that is set up on the eastern part of  the celestial Issyk-Kul Lake. On our way, we will stop by at the Burana Tower (minaret from the 11th century) and an open air museum of Balbals (stone warriors dated back with 7th century). Then you will be moved to the incredible Issyk-Kul Lake - the second largest alpine lake in the world (1608m.above sea level), the coast line of which stretches for the length of 180 km. You will really enjoy the wonderful view of the Tien Shan Mountains that inframe the whole lake. Due to the salty water, Lake Issyk Kul possesses curative properties. On tour way, we will have a short break to give you the chance to visit ancient stone inscriptions (dating back to 800 B.C.). They were depicted by local tribes of Saks and Usuns that believed that Issyk Kul Lake was the center of the world. During the trip to Karakol town you will go along the whole northern shore of Issyk Kul Lake. Overnight in a guesthouse "Elita" in Karakol.   

Day 2: Karakol - Mokraya Polyana (2790 m a. s. l.)
Early in the morning we will visit the Dungan mosque. The interesting point about it is the fact that it was built without a single nail. Afterwards we will visit Orthodox Church made of wood more than 100 years ago and even nowadays attracts many visitors. Afterwards we transfer to Karakol gorge, which is one of the most beautiful gorges situated at the heart of the Terskey Mountains. Here we are able to see Turkestan spruce trees that grow only here in Kyrgyzstan. The height of the tree can reach 18 meters and the girth of its trunk makes up 1.5 meters. We will have hiking to the foot of the glade with the name Mokraya Polyana (7 h). Overnight is in tents on the altitude of 2790 m. above sea level.

Day 3: Mokraya Polyana glade - Eastern Irdik lake (3 200 m. a. s. l.)
In the morning we start our hiking to the eastern Irdik Lake (3200 m). This hike will take us 7 hours. We will hike over the pass Bokovoi (3300 m). During the hike we see constant changing of the landscapes and all the scenery around. We will see steep cliffs and precipices, high rocks, green mountains; we will go through the juniper forest where a sick person starts feeling better. There we can see a wonderful and unforgettable sunset over the most beautiful peaks of Kungey Ala-Too mountain range named Fuchika (4010m), Morozov (3960m), 800 years of Moscow (3872m). Overnight in tents.

Day 4: Eastern Irdik Lake - Western Irdik Lake (3 300 m. a. s. l.)
Today's hike will take 7 hours. On our way we will see a lot of edelweiss fields (the flowers of love) that have been recorded into the Red Book of extending flora and fauna and pastures used by Kyrgyz nomads. We will be able to see many marmots at the altitude of 3650 m. On the way we will overcome the Severnyi pass that is 3380 m. above sea level. In these places you start to forget about hectic civilization and you can really relax enjoying the amazing views of our Mother Nature. Camping is arranged at the altitude of 3300 m. above sea level. Overnight is in tents. 

Day 5: Western Irdik Lake - Karakol  (1 650 m. a. s. l.)
After breakfast we start our hiking with descent to Diychin valley (5h) where a lot of dungan people live. Dungans are considered to be Chinese ethnically but Muslims from the religious point of view. They had been prosecuted by the Chinese in the 19th century and fled to Kyrgyzstan and nowadays live in here as one of the biggest diasporas. Today we will visit a Dungan family where you will be able to try traditional lagman soup (thick noodles with spicy souse). Hiking is accompanied with interesting encounters with local nomadic people. Every year they go to the mountains with their cattle and live in yurts. Yurts are collapsible nomadic dwellings that are made without using a single nail! Afterwards transfer to Karakol town (10 km - 25 min). Overnight in "Elita" guesthouse (1650 m).

Day 6: Karakol - Kochkor (280 km - 5 h, 1800 m. a. s. l.)
Our last destination for today is Kochkor, a big village that 180 km far from Bishkek But being in Karakol we will visit a local bazaar and try national dishes, such as ashlyamfu and shashlyk made of beef or lam. Then we will start our way to Kochkor village. On the way we will visit Djeti Oguz Mountains that are much admired because of their magnificent beauty and of course you will see the Broken Heart Mountain. Then while going along the southern shore of Issyk Kul Lake we will visit a private factory for producing yurts. Your lunch will be given in Bokonbaevo village in Talgat's  House. This person is known for his mastery of training hunting birds. Talgat will tell us everything about this unique type of hunting and it is possible for you to make photos with these magnificent birds of prey. Having arrived in Kochkor village you will learn a lot about Kyrgyz traditions and customs. You will observe the process of making traditional Kyrgyz carpets and even participate in it!  After it traditional dinner in a yurt, we will listen to a folk concert.  This night you will spend in a home stay with a local family.

Day 7: Kochkor - Bishkek (210 km - 5 h)
The last day of your trip you will have a traditional breakfast with the hosts and then we head towards Bishkek. After arrival you will have some spare time to have a rest in your guesthouse and then there will be the last dinner in national restaurant with national music. Overnight stay is in the hotel named "Asia Mountains".
